The Berlin Wall 13 August 1961: 50 Years Ago

Much information you can find here about The Wall:

http://www.chronik-der-mauer.de/

This Saturday at 00.00 hrs the commemoration of the Berlin Wall will start with the reading of the names of those who were shot when trying to flee from East to West. Not only in Berlin. The wall locked up the whole German Democratic Republic (GDR) but most of the border was in the country side and therefore not so shocking to look at. 17 Mio Eastern Germans were not allowed to leave the country until 9 November 1989 (except pensioneers, but also not at any time).
