Last night, Berlin-Neukölln, a district with much Arab immigration, celebrates German football... the Oriental way... If integration was always that easy, but this is proof that football unites people :-)

Luxury car with Honecker photo
I discovered this car today in Berlin. It was parked in Mitte. I have never ever seen a photo from Erich Honecker in the street since the wall came down :-)

Public Smart Phone Socket At Tram Station
Another cool thing I discovered in Berlin these days: the public socket for your smart phone :-) I saw it at the tram station in front of Starbucks Hackesche Höfe.

The Berlin Wall 13 August 1961: 50 Years Ago
Much information you can find here about The Wall:
http://www.chronik-der-mauer.de/
This Saturday at 00.00 hrs the commemoration of the Berlin Wall will start with the reading of the names of those who were shot when trying to flee from East to West. Not only in Berlin. The wall locked up the whole German Democratic Republic (GDR) but most of the border was in the country side and therefore not so shocking to look at. 17 Mio Eastern Germans were not allowed to leave the country until 9 November 1989 (except pensioneers, but also not at any time).

Berlin: District fights with snowballs
Berlin is the capital of pacifists. Nowhere else so many people go on the street to show their opinion. But what is this here??? It is known that once per year Kreuzbergers and Friedrichhainers (actually one district, formerly east and west) meet on the Oberbaum bridge to through tomatos at each other. No wonder that they got new ideas during this long winter with massive snow.
The new sport is district snowball fighting. This time another district: Kreuzberg vs. Neukölln. Old Western enemies among themselves. This is political consciousness with a touch of bohème against blue collar. The whole "event" was organized through Facebook and others Internet services.
Kreuzbergers came well prepared to the Görlitzer Park with a self-made snowball-gun. At 2pm last Sunday a fanfare horn opened the battle. After 2 hours the battle was over because of a shortage of "munition". Nobody knows who the winner is.
Also Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg have had the first battle. There has been no sun for the last 18 days and more snow is to come on the weekend ...

Featured Article: The Brandenburg Gate A Sight to Behold
The Brandenburg Gate A Sight to Behold
Author: Anisha Vidinha
The Brandenburg Gate, located west of the city of Berlin, is one of the main symbols of both the city and the country of Germany. When you visit Berlin, you will find this important national symbol and tourist attraction just west of the Pariser Platz. It is the former city gate and is the entrance to the Under den Linden, which is a boulevard of linden trees that at one time led to the city palace of the Prussian monarchs of the country. King Frederick William 11 of Prussia commissioned the building of this gate in the late 18 the century and it was built by Carl Gotthard Langhams who completed the project in 1791. Today it is one of the most famous landmarks in all of Europe.
